Embedded Engineer
Location: Lund, Sweden (Serstech’s office)
Who we are:
Serstech develops handheld Raman spectrometers, which are used by law enforcement and first responders to identify narcotics and other hazardous chemicals. The instruments are slightly larger than a mobile phone and contains highly sophisticated optics, electronics and software. Serstech is the only manufacturer of handheld Raman instruments in the European Union and customers include United Nations and World Customs Organization. Production of Serstech’s products is done in Sweden by a third-party manufacturer.
The company and the team are both characterized by large flexibility, high skill-levels and clear customer focus. Our company values are excellence, joy, trust and openness. These values are important success factors and are nurtured, lived and encouraged daily.
About the role:
Serstech’s instruments are running Linux on an ARM-based system. Large parts of the applications are written in Python and C++ and the GUI is using Qt. Low level C code is running on some of the peripherals included in the products. The big cost drivers of the instruments are mainly within the optical parts, which means that there are less constraints for the software parts than for many other systems – there is plenty of memory, storage and other resources to use.
As for any handheld, embedded system, we need to optimize battery lifetime, and an important user requirement is the analysis and start-up speed of the instruments. The time-to-result is important since the instruments are often used during stressful conditions, e.g. during a narcotics seizure or at a hazardous materials event.
Serstech is looking for an Embedded Developer in data security, communication (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and USB), power management and driver/Linux component development.
The successful candidate must have
· at least seven years of experience in embedded product development
· a master’s degree or corresponding knowledge level
· deep knowledge within at least one of the following areas: data security, power management, embedded Linux or communication
· a deep understanding of, and a profound interest in technology
· a hands-on, collaborative, unpretentious and open mindset
· fluency in English, both spoken and written
The successful candidate should have
· experience from Python development and/or C++
· basic understanding of Git and Yocto
· experience from start-ups, scale-ups and/or own business ventures
· basic understanding of the Swedish language
· experience from making unit and function tests
